Chim↑Pom: Activism and Public Art

Chim↑Pom is a artist collective in Japan that is famous for their rogue operations, putting up controversial art installations around Japan. Often times these installations have activism. For example, Level7 (the video above) is an addition to the mural Myth of Tomorrow, which is a depiction of nuclear bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Chim↑Pom added a mural to an empty corner on the mural which shows the Fukushima nuclear plant. With modern technology and use of social media, Chim↑Pom is able to get social attention by exploiting the controversial nature of the art. The art was taken away a day after by authorities.
