Warnings – Colors and Shapes for Connotative Purposes


I wanted to examine other warning signs to gain a deeper understanding for how border and color contribute to the overall “warning” connotation that is exuded by a sign. The classic warning yellow and diamond shape stand out as universal markers of danger and are the most common combination by far of all warning combinations. Thus, even images that are not necessarily representative of warning are enhanced by color and shape.

Explore these signs and consider the relationship between the image and the colors and borders contributing to the images.
