Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud

Scott McCloud published a book called “Understanding Comics” in the late twentieth century, and despite his relatively young age at the time, the work was widely appreciated (and still is today) due to its unexpected depth and knowledge regarding the history of art, themes and genres of comics, and art as a whole. I stumbled across this magnificent book and it has taught me fundamentals in art that I never thought would have been necessary to understand. In the earliest chapter, the book discusses the concept of the icon, its flexible definition, and the reasoning behind its ability to resonate so well with humans. Here are some pages from the chapter that may convey the basic ideas of McCloud’s thoughts on icons.
